The prestigious Wagener Stadium goes for circular!
The Wagener hockey stadium is perhaps the best known and most traditional hockey stadium in the world.
Dating back to 1938, the stadium has hosted many international tournaments and matches.
Since 1980, the stadium is owned by the Royal Dutch Hockey Federation (KNHB) and important tournaments are still played there.
The Wagener stadium has also been named as a venue for the 2026 Women’s and Men’s Hockey World Cup.
In order to stay prepared for the future, the field has been renovated in the last weeks. Not only the field, but also the sub-base is addressed.
The old E-Layer has been removed, and space has been made for a TenCate Grass EcoCept® performance sports base, installed by GCC Sport Surfaces.
The Ecocept® performance sports base is an innovative type of porous underlay, specially developed for use under artificial grass pitches.
Ecocept® can be used as a combined construction layer and shock pad and guarantees a stable surface to reduce the loads experienced by players.
EcoCept® is made from recycled rubber granulate and recycled artificial grass and thus also reduces the impact on the environment.
The recycled artificial grass (RTA) is produced and supplied by GBN Artificial Grass Recycling (AGR). After the artificial turf has been separated from the infill, the carpet is downsized, sieved and processed into an agglomerate. We call this agglomerate RTA (Recycled Turf Agglomerate).
The RTA is a processable granulate that is used, in EcoCept® or in various circular plastic products.
The #EcoCept® has been approved by Kiwa ISA Sport, and the new GreenFields turf has also been installed by CSC Sport. Off towards many great matches!
